Overview
This experiment demonstrates how to use a Zener diode as a voltage regulator. The Zener diode is connected in reverse bias to maintain a stable voltage at its breakdown voltage.
Components Required
- Zener Diode (5.1V)
- Resistor (1kΩ)
- Power Supply (12V)
- Multimeter
Procedure
Follow these steps to set up the experiment:
- Connect the Zener diode in reverse bias across the output.
- Attach the resistor in series with the input to limit current.
- Measure the output voltage with a multimeter to ensure it is stable at 5.1V.
Expected Result
The output voltage will be regulated to 5.1V regardless of input voltage fluctuations. The Zener diode will maintain this voltage as long as the input is higher than the Zener voltage.
